S.L. Leavitt was Craftsbury's Post Master during (at least) the period between 1875 and 1881 (as found on Ancestry).
Maybe this is the explanation for the apostrophe in the word 'sons'?) May 1, 1891: "The partnership of S.L. Leavitt and Sons is this day dissolved by mutual agreement, and the business of the firm will be continued by Stephen L. Leavitt and James D. Leavitt under the firm of S.L. Leavitt & Son." Orleans County Monitor, May 11, 1891.
